What is Veterinary Physiotherapy?

Veterinary physiotherapy is a holistic approach to improving an animal’s quality of life, by assessing and treating the musculoskeletal system. Whilst it is commonly associated with animals recovering from injury, it is also incredibly beneficial on a maintenance basis for competition animals or as a pre-habilitative approach.

By utilising and combining a broad spectrum of knowledge, covering anatomy, biomechanics, injury and performance, physiotherapists create individualised treatment plans tailored to help the animal in front of us. These treatments combine a variety of approaches, focusing primarily on manual techniques but supplementing with electrotherapies and therapeutic exercises where clinically appropriate.

Physiotherapists work closely with your vet to support those animals recovering from diagnosed conditions, but may also work alongside other paraprofessionals to give your animal the best care possible.
